Description of site:
A long, white, sandy beach, the adjacent narrow strip of beach forest, and part of the forested area behind the beach ridge.

Climatic conditions:
Humid tropical climate.

Principal vegetation:
Beach forest and lowland forest.

Land tenure:
State owned (Indonesian Government).

Conservation measures taken:
None

Conservation measures proposed:
The area has been proposed as a Wildlife Reserve (Suaka Margasatwa).

Land use:
Harvesting of the eggs of Maleo Birds.

Possible Changes in Land use:
There is likely to be a considerable increase in population under transmigration schemes along the whole length of the coast.

Disturbances and threats:
Clearing of forest in the feeding areas of the Maleo Birds, and lack of scientific guidelines in determining harvest quotas for their eggs.

Economic and social values:
The eggs of the Maleo Birds have been harvested in the traditional way for many years, apparently on a sustainable yield basis.

Fauna:
The beach is used as a nesting site by a large population of Maleo Birds Macrocephalon maleo.

Special floral values:
None known.
