Description of site:
An excellent complex of mangrove formations backed by peat swamp forests, still in a relatively undisturbed condition.

20,000 ha of mangrove forest and 50,000 ha of peat swamp forest.

State owned (Government of Indonesia).

The area has been proposed as a Wildlife Reserve (Suaka Margasatwa).

There are plans to log the area.

Fauna:
The wetland is an important breeding area for the Estuarine Crocodile Crocodylus
porosus. The forests support a rich bird life and some primates.
