Introduction of the rare and endangered medicinal plants into forest garden of ethnic minorities

Objectives

  • To study the ex-situ conservation of rare and endangered medicinal plants in the mountainous areas of Northern Vietnam
  • To develop these medicinal plants as part of the farms or forest gardens of ethnic minorities.

  • Identification of rare and endangered medicinal plants
  • Establishment of home/forest gardens to serve for the introduction and development of medicinal plants
  • Introduction and acclimatization of rare and endangered medicinal plants
  • Application of agricultural methods to improve the quality and yield of plants
  • Application of Ethnopharmacology, market development and education to improve the knowledge of ethnic communities on the conservation of the medicinal plants.

Expected Outcomes

  • Conservation of the rare and endangered medical plants
  • Turning wild medicinal plants into economical plants would increase the income and improve the living condition of the ethnic minorities in Northern Vietnam.
