Protection of four endangered fish species in upper stream Gam River, Vietnam
Objectives
- To identify the important biological characteristics of the four endangered fish species in upper stream Gam river.
- To identify the main habitat and breeding ground of these species.
- To map the distribution and breeding ground of these species.
- To interview households fishing in the upper stream river.
- To initiate alternative ways for income generation of the fishing households.
- To promote the appropriate ex-situ conservation measures including guidelines/regulations for the protection of these species.
- To create awareness among stakeholders and communities through participatory involvement in protection of these species.
Research Theme
- Ecological Reconstruction
Activities
- Regular expedition to collect fish samples for biological analysis.
- Analysis of the biological characteristics of the fish species using morphological parameters like maturation stages, development stage of gonad, breeding season, type of eggs, type of natural feed.
- Determine influencing factors on population and resources of the fish species.
- Mapping the distribution of their breeding grounds;
- Conduct interviews and analyze data using the SPS programme.
