Populations, habitats and measures for conservation, development and use of beneficial Hymenopteran wasps in or around protected areas in Northern Vietnam
Objectives
- To survey and inventory of biodiversity of beneficial hymenopteran groups such as bees, pollinators/predators wasps in target forest and agricultural ecosystems or around the forests necessitating action in the form of conservation and social forestry development in the buffer zones of Hoa Binh and Ninh Binh provinces around Cuc Phuong National Park.
- To study the population, distribution, habitat and species richness with particular emphasis on the composition, role and ecological status of hymenopteran wasps in buffer zones between unmanaged natural forest and managed forest and agricultural areas.
- To conduct impact studies of environmental pollution and habitat disturbance on species composition of beneficial hymenopteran wasps and other organisms involved.
- To determine ecological measures for maintaining diversity, conservation and development of beneficial hymenopteran groups.
- To develop training for forestry staff on the techniques applicable and measures for development of sustainable resource use in established communities living in and around the forest.
Research Theme
- Biological Uses and Values
Activities
- Collect specimens using general and specialized methods (Malaise Trap, flight intercept trap, aerial net, nest collection, sweep net, rearing from hosts)
- Other activities - not indicated
Expected Outcomes
- Demonstration of the economic importance of species normally neglected or even considered 'harmful'.
Indicative Budget
Duration
Project site
- Hoa Binh and Ninh Binh provinces, Vietnam
ARCBC Remarks
- ARCBC will appoint a suitable supervisor and ensure linkages to other studies on the economics of buiodiversity. Has systematics strengthening theme also.
