Biodiversity assessment of the Ha Long Bay Heritage Area and proposition of management plans

Objectives

  • To inventory the species richness, aquatic resources, ecological conditions and their changes.
  • To assess the marine biodiversity of Ha Long Bay.
  • To conduct rapid appraisal of environmental conditions, utilization status, development activities and threats to marine biodiversity.
  • To propose management plans which includes mapping of marine biodiversity zones in Ha Long Bay and community involvement in management work.

  • Collection and assessment of the existing and secondary source data.
  • Sampling and field survey.
  • Conduct rapid rural appraisal.
  • Process data and compute the biodiversity indices using Shannon-Wiener index.

Expected Outcomes

  • Assessment of the marine biodiversity, as well as the conditions and problems of communities in Ha Long Bay Heritage area.
  • Map of marine biodiversity zones in Ha Long Bay.
  • Management Plan for Ha Long Bay
