The biodiversity and management strategy of endemic fish species in Lake Towuti, South Sulawesi
Objectives
- To determine the diversity of fishes in the lake.
- To gather information on the food, feeding habits and reproductive aspects of endemic fishes in the lake.
- To conduct experiments on the breeding and cultivation of the endemic species in captivity.

Activities
- Organize and conduct workshop to raise the awareness of local people and government officers on the values of biodiversity in Lake Towuti.
- Teach the community sustainable ways of using the lake ecosystems.
- Determine species diversity in the lake using the Shannon Wiener index.
- Conduct sampling using standard methods in Fishery Biology.
- Describe and calculate gonad maturity, fecundity, sex ratio, sexual dimorphism and spawning season of the fishes.
- Conduct breeding experiments.
- Develop management strategies (i.e. close season catching, permitted mesh size, etc.
Expected Outcomes
- Ex-situ conservation and other management strategies to support the sustainable use of the lake Towuti in South Sulawesi.
- Information disseminated to local communities, government officers and other stakeholders.
