Ecological distribution of endemic fish species in Lake Poso and Malili complex, Sulawesi Island

Objectives

• To identify the threatened level for the need of protection effort.
  
• To be used as basic consideration to find the lost strategy for their in-situ conservation and sustainable use for research, education, recreation and needs of the local people.
  
• To develop ex-situ conservation to support the best strategy for sustainable use.

Activities

• Data collection in the field. Habitat quality will be based on physical, chemical and biological data of their aquatic environment. Relative density and distribution of the population will be based on data of catch per unit effort from the lakes and the surrounding inlets and outlet streams.
  
• Collection and observation of mature gonads and gut contents of fish species.
  
• Laboratory analysis of water samples.
  
• Conduct breeding experiments (aquaculture and captive breeding study)
  
• Collaboration with European institutions (i.e. Leiden Museum of Natural History and British Museum of Natural History)

Expected Outcomes

• In-situ and ex-situ conservation strategies to support the sustainable use of the lake Poso and Malili Complex in Sulawesi Island.
