Study of Forest Fire in Kirium National Park

Objectives

  • To identify the geographical location of the extent of forest fire in Kirirum National Park
  • To define the root cause of forest fire, flammability and frequency
  • To assess the impact of forest fire on biodiversity conservation
  • To develop methodology for forest fire monitoring
  • To develop action plan for fire prevention and control

Activities

  • Mapping of forest fire using GPS and participatory mapping
  • Study of the causes of fire through PRA and interview
  • Study of the flammability and frequency of forest fire
  • Assess the impact of forest fire on biodiversity conservation through inventories of plant and animal species affected by forest fire, determination of plant growth after forest fire
  • Socio-economic and land use study
  • Development of strategies in response to forest fire
  • Conduct provincial meeting to discuss the research findings and strategies

  • Improved management of protected area through forest fire monitoring and prevention
  • Public participation in forest fire monitoring and prevention
