Workshop on Identification of Standards for
Protected Area Occupations in the ASEAN

Following its Training Needs Assessment Workshops in 2001, ARCBC has conducted a "Workshop on Identification of Standards for Protected Area Occupations in the ASEAN" last 1-5 July 2002 at the Kinabalu National Park in Sabah, Malaysia. This workshop was aimed at producing a set of draft occupational standards for generic protected area management occupations based on the collective experience of ASEAN countries.

Participated in by a total of 27 participants from the different ASEAN member countries, the 5-day workshop yielded the following main outputs:

As a follow-up activity, a draft document will be prepared containing the outputs of the workshop and will be circulated among the participants for comments. Once finalized, the results will be tested by conducting workshops in the ASEAN region. The final draft will depend on the results of the regional workshops and, as suggested in the Sabah workshop, can be presented on the next ASOEN Meeting for endorsement. Results and outputs are being collated and edited and will be available later in the year.
